Akiff Zarr Ukasyah Shuhaimi, a Malaysian working in Singapore, was en route home last Thursday (17 Oct) when he was involved in a serious traffic accident.

The 28-year-old F&B supervisor was travelling along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) when he fell from his motorcycle while trying to avoid another accident. While on the road, Akiff was run over by another “larger motorcycle”.

As a result of the accident, Aliff sustained spinal injuries and fractured his left arm. His lung injuries have also caused internal bleeding.

According to Malaysia news site Bernama, Aliff’s medical bill has amounted to RM363,688 (S$110,438) as of Wednesday (23 Oct).

While Aliff is currently undergoing intensive care at the National University Hospital (NUH), the family plans to have him undergo follow-up surgeries in Johor Bahru (JB).

However, the family was reportedly told that they would have to pay at least 50% of the treatment costs at NUH first.

Got married 3 weeks ago

What makes the story even more tragic is that Aliff got married just three weeks ago.

Aliff’s wife Nur Syahirah Md Zohir was visibly distraught while speaking to Bernama and said the family is worried about settling her husband’s medical bill.

To visit her second son, Aliff’s mother Ku Amazon Tuan Yusof is also travelling daily across the Causeway to Singapore.

Despite her son’s predicament, she was thankful to NUH for their care:

We are grateful to NUH for the treatment and their concern. The social workers have also met with us to inquire about our situation.

The family has reportedly received about S$7,000 in donations thus far.

Those who would like to contribute can refer to the bank details here.
