Wild Sambar Deer Spotted Along Mandai Road

Sightings of rare animals are really hard to come by and it’s not every day that you see a wild deer in Singapore.

In a viral video on Facebook, a curious wild Sambar deer was spotted wandering along Mandai Rd.

The deer seemed to have wanted to cross the road but then retreated back into the woods after noticing the oncoming vehicle.

Sambar deer usually have a head-body length of 2m and can weigh up to 260kg, almost 4 times the weight of an average human.

This beautiful species was thought to be extinct in Singapore back in the 1940s. But have been making appearances in our streets every now and then.

Be careful of wild animals when driving

Although rare, sightings of these wild deer and other wild animals have recently been on an increase, with some even ended up being killed in an accident.

Drivers cruising the roads of Singapore should therefore be aware of their surroundings at all times especially in areas where wild animals are reported to have been seen dashing across the road.

For example, Mandai Road is famous for having wild animals appearing out of nowhere.

Back in February 2018, 2 Sambar deer were killed in the same month due to accidents with motorists.

If you are driving past this road, make sure to go slow and keep a lookout for wild animals.

Other roads where wild animals are usually sighted are Upper Thompson Road and Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE).
