Driver in Thailand speeds & kills family of 3 on motorcycle
A BMW driver in Thailand who was driving at 207km/h ended up hitting a motorcycle. The collision killed three people riding the motorcycle.
Photos of the aftermath of the incident also showed the left side of the BMW totalled by the collision.
According to Khaosod, the accident occurred on Wednesday (27 Nov) evening just before 7pm in Chumphon province, Thailand.
Driver fled scene
After the accident, eyewitnesses said they saw a woman exiting the car.
Witnesses told Thairath that the woman began asking them for help finding her cat. The feline had been scared by the sudden impact and run off, she told them.
After it got loose, the cat hid underneath the belly of the car. The cat was later returned to the woman, who then said she’d call her boyfriend to pick her up.
Soon after, the paramedics arrived on the scene. However, the woman who had driven the BMW had fled the scene by then.
Woman turns herself in following day
As she left her vehicle at the scene, police were able to review the dashcam footage. The woman had also left all her identification inside the vehicle, including her national ID.
The footage showed the woman driving at 207 km/h before rear-ending the motorcycle.
The hit launched the 52-year-old mother and 14-year-old daughter off the overpass. Meanwhile, her 16-year-old son remained on the road.
A half-empty bottle of alcohol was also discovered in the vehicle.
The bodies of the deceased were turned over to the distraught father on Thursday (28 Nov) morning.
At around 2pm the very same day, the woman turned herself into the police.
She’s been charged with speeding, reckless driving leading to death, fleeing the scene, and drunk driving without a driver’s license, according to the press release by local police.
Driver was recording herself
Police also discovered that the woman had been recording herself driving just before the accident.
According to Khaosod, she had only one hand on the wheel while her other hand was holding her phone to record herself driving at high speed.
According to Channel 3 News, the woman had been released on bail of ฿100,000 (S$3,900).
