South Korean Convenience Store Emart24 To Open At Serangoon And Boon Lay
Due to our fast-paced lifestyle, convenience is important to Singapore residents, which could explain why convenience stores are so popular here.
Besides the typical Cheers and 7-Eleven, we can start patronising emart24, which hails all the way from South Korea, starting tomorrow (23 Dec).
Residents of Boon Lay and Serangoon can look forward to a pre-Christmas surprise as the convenience store chain will be opening two outlets at Jurong Point and NEX.
If existing stores in South Korea are anything to go by, expect to see dishes like gimbap or seaweed rice rolls and Tteokbokki or rice cakes.
Emart24 convenience store opening 2 outlets in Singapore
On Wednesday (21 Dec), emart24 Singapore took to Facebook to announce its imminent opening at Jurong Point and NEX.
Their post only confirmed what eagle-eyed folks may have already noticed, as boards have been up, marking the stores’ premises at the respective malls.
While the boards merely stated that the stores are opening in Dec 2022, they did not disclose the exact dates. The chain only revealed the dates in their Facebook post as:
- Jurong Point outlet: 23 Dec 2022 (Friday)
- NEX outlet: 24 Dec 2022 (Saturday)
Get fresh Korean food on the go
At the time of writing, information regarding both stores, such as their opening hours and offerings, remain unavailable.
But if the stores here are to resemble their South Korean counterparts, it’s safe to assume that customers can look forward to getting fresh Korean fare.
Besides conventional paus, the outlets in South Korea also offer street food like eomuk or fish cakes with various fillings as well as chewy Tteokbokki.
Alternatively, customers can opt for cupdak — an assortment of fried treats lathered in either spicy or soy garlic sauce.
Those looking for a more filling meal might want to try one of the cupbaps instead — a Korean-style bento with various ingredients like corn, kimchi, seaweed, and meat.
While emart24 outlets halal-certified across the Causeway, it’s unclear if they’ll be the same here in Singapore. One thing’s for sure is that we hope they’d be just as affordable.
If you know anyone who stays in Serangoon or Boon Lay and would be interested in what the upcoming convenience stores have to offer, tag them in the comments.
