Flash floods in Yishun Ave 7 & Wan Tho Ave subsided within 10 minutes, says PUB
On Friday (22 Nov), another heavy downpour in Singapore caused flood risk warnings to be issued across the island.
Two of the locations affected were Yishun and Potong Pasir, where flash floods occurred.

Flash floods in Yishun & Potong Pasir Bukit Timah subsided within 10 minutes
In a Facebook post on Friday afternoon, national water agency PUB said the flash flood along Wan Tho Avenue, which is near Potong Pasir MRT station, developed at around 3.10 pm.
Over at Yishun Avenue 7, another flash flood started at 3.30pm.
Both incidents subsided within 10 minutes, PUB said.
Nevertheless, PUB’s Quick Response Team provided immediate assistance to motorists at both locations.
PUB issued 19 flood risk warnings on 22 Nov
On Friday, PUB issued flood risk warnings for 19 locations across the island due to the heavy rainfall.
According to the PUB Flood Alerts Telegram channel, members of the public were advised to avoid Wan Tho Avenue near the junction of Pheng Geck Ave, and Yishun Avenue 7.
Other areas it warned against included Lorong Gambir (which is off Bartley Road), Mount Vernon Road, Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1, Bedok Avenue 4 and Jalan Nipah (which is off Bedok Road).
This is the third day in the past week that PUB issued flood risk warnings across Singapore due to heavy rain.
Ponding experienced at other places
Certain other places in Singapore also experienced high water levels despite no flash flood warnings being issued.
For example, a TikTok video showed cars were driving through deep waters along Lentor Avenue.

In another TikTok video, a walkway next to a kopitiam in Tampines was seen inundated with water. A netizen identified it as Block 823 Tampines Street 81.

Another walkway at the foot of an HDB block in an unidentified estate experienced even worse ponding, according to a third TikTok video.

127.7mm of rain fell in northwestern S’pore over less than 3 hours
According to PUB, the heaviest rainfall recorded on Friday was a total of 127.7mm in northern Singapore over less than three hours — from 2.15pm to 4.50pm.
“This amount corresponds to 51% of Singapore’s average monthly rainfall in November,” PUB said.
It also lies within the top 1% of maximum daily rainfall records since 1978.
Moderate to heavy showers expected in the afternoons on most days
PUB also warned of moderate to heavy showers across Singapore in the afternoons on most days.
This is due to the onset of the Northeast Monsoon.
Last Friday, the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) had made a similar forecast for the second half of November.
Localised flash floods typically subside within an hour: PUB
These “sudden and intense storms” may “temporarily overwhelm our canals and drains”, PUB added.

PUB encouraged members of the public to use the MyENV app and subscribe to the PUB Flood Alerts Telegram channel to get alerts on heavy rain and flood risk warnings.
