940,000 Eligible HDB Households Get GST Vouchers For Utility Bills
As part of the government’s Care and Support Package announced in Budget 2020, 940,000 Housing & Development Board (HDB) households will receive twice the usual amount of Goods & Services Tax (GST) vouchers to help ease their utilities bills.
Certain larger households will be eligible for more help too, under the same scheme, said a statement from the Ministry of Finance (MOF) released on Thursday (2 Apr).
Read on for more details of the rebates that households will receive this year.
Rebates of up to $300 for eligible HDB households
This Apr, eligible HDB households will receive GST Voucher – Utilities-Save (U-Save) rebates of up to $300.
The value of rebate vouchers received this year will be doubled across the board, so households will receive twice the amount of vouchers than normal.
With the doubling of vouchers, 1-room and 2-room HDB households will receive 6 to 8 months’ worth of rebates, as compared with 3 to 4 months previously.
This will be scaled accordingly for those living in 3-room, 4-room and 5-room flats. They will also receive twice the amount of vouchers as usual, but will receive less rebates.
Households will be able to receive a rebate of up to $300 this month, as well as in Jul.
Households with 5 or more members get additional voucher
According to the MOF, households with 5 or more members are eligible for additional rebates.
Eligible households will receive an additional GST Voucher – U-Save, which means they will get 2.5 times the usual amount of rebates they normally get.
Consequently, the Government will disburse $630 million to eligible households this financial year.
