Nearly 200 Thai monkeys break out of ‘prison’, cops barricade police station
Around 200 monkeys in Thailand broke out of their ‘prison’, causing cops from a nearby police station to barricade the building in order to block them from scouring for food.
According to Channel 3 News, the monkeys crawled out of their cage on Saturday (16 Nov). They managed to squeeze through a small opening they had created in the cage.
Monkeys descend on their captors for food
After escaping their ‘prison’, the approximately 200 monkeys began searching for food.
One gang of primates hit the nearby Tha Hin police station, forcing the cops to immediately barricade the building.
According to Barron’s, police were afraid the monkeys would destroy police documents and cause untold damage to the station in their search for food.
“We’ve had to make sure doors and windows are closed to prevent them from entering the building for food,” the police captain said.
The station even called in traffic cops on duty to help fend off the invaders.
Authorities still rounding up the escapees
Despite some difficulty, authorities were able to repair the opening the monkeys had made to prevent more escapes. But this was not before the monkeys had scoured the town for something to eat.
Other than the police station, the monkeys had also visited nearby residences in search of food.

Authorities said that because some of the monkeys had eaten their fill, it would be difficult to lure them from their hiding spots using food.
Expecting all the escaped primates to be captured soon, authorities ask that locals don’t panic and simply notify them if a loose monkey is spotted.
Town well-known for their monkeys
Lopburi, located in central Thailand, is well-known for monkeys wandering the streets. In fact, the primates are a big draw for tourists to visit the city.
However, earlier this year, tensions between human and monkey inhabitants in Lopburi reached an all-time high, causing authorities to round up the monkeys in the town.
According to the Bangkok Post, the monkeys were placed in a massive cage in Pho Khao Ton Monkey Nursery.
