Police-Like Signboard In Tanjong Pagar Is Actually An Advertisement
Whenever you pass by a police signboard it will notify people of crime in the area such as “45 arrested for shop theft” or “7 bicycle thefts reported in this location”.
However, this police-like signboard in Tanjong Pagar notifies people of properties for sale and rent.
A Facebook user recently shared a photo of a property advertisement by 99.co which bears a close resemblance to the police signboards we walk past often.
Similar to police signboards
If you put the advertisement and a police signboard side by side, you can really see the difference.
The format and design are almost similar, and the only noticeable difference is the choice of words.
According to 99.co’s marketing team who we reached out to, the signboard was purposely made to look like Singapore Police Force’s (SPF) because it’s a design with maximum readability and visibility.
Also, it is a design that has worked over the years for SPF.
Since people tend to look at police signboards when they walk past them, the company is leveraging on this behaviour.
Netizens praise ad, but also express reservations
Many netizens took to the comments section to voice their opinion. Here are a few.
Some say that this is a smart move by the company.
While others questioned if there are really so many properties for rent and sale in Tanjong Pagar.
Another asked if these types of advertisements are allowed, given how similar they are to police signboards.
MS News has reached out to the Singapore Police Force (SPF) about whether such advertisements are in fact allowed.
Well, whether it is legitimate, the advertisement did catch our attention and made us chuckle.
