Social Distancing Rules Require People To Sit & Queue 1m Apart From 27 Mar, Or Face Fine & Jail
The Infectious Diseases Act has once again been updated to help curb the spread of Covid-19.
From today (27 Mar), it is now an offence to intentionally sit or queue less than 1 metre away from another person. It is also an offence to occupy seats that have been marked out as ‘not for sitting’.

Failure to comply might see one being fined up to $10,000, jailed up to 6 months, or both, according to The Straits Times.
Increased severity of safe distancing measures
A previous update announced involved similar fines and jail terms for patients who leave their homes during the 5-day sick leave period.

Non-essential activities which require people to be in close proximity over a long period of time have also been suspended.
Unofficial gatherings are now limited to 10 people or less.
Social distancing is to be taken seriously
While these measures undoubtedly need some time getting used to, it is a necessary evil to curb the spread of Covid-19.
By enforcing fines and jail terms, it is obvious that the government is not taking the pandemic lightly.
