Student in M’sia suffers broken pelvis after classmate moved her chair as prank
A family in Malaysia is demanding accountability after a 13-year-old student in Batu Pahat, Johor, fractured her pelvis due to a chair prank by a classmate.
The classmate moved her chair, causing her to fall.
The incident, which occurred on 17 Nov, left the student in severe pain, according to the New Straits Times (NST).
Injury reportedly dismissed by teacher
The student’s 20-year-old sister, Shahirah Shah, expressed frustration over the school’s response. She alleged that a teacher dismissively referred to the injury as “fate”.
“My sister complained of pain after returning from school. We took her to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital in Batu Pahat that evening when her condition got worse,” she said.

Scans revealed the student had a fractured pelvis, causing her significant discomfort.
School teachers accused of indifference
Ms Shahirah also claimed the school failed to notify the family or provide medical assistance for the student.
She added that their request to move her sister’s class to the ground floor for health reasons was rejected.

A teacher allegedly dismissed the severity of her injury, comparing it to cases her own child — a doctor — wouldn’t deem serious.
The student was subsequently removed from her class WhatsApp group, which the family interpreted as an act of ostracism.
Victim’s sister demands better safety protocols
Calling for better safety measures in schools, Ms Shahirah urged education authorities to address lapses and ensure student safety is prioritised.
“This isn’t the first such incident in schools, but it shouldn’t be trivialised,” she added.
The family hopes their appeal will prompt the school and education officials to take stronger action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, the family lodged a police report on 19 Nov.
