Sungei Kadut Fire Put Out After 2 Hours By 100 SCDF Firefighters
SCDF responded to a massive fire at a Sungei Kadut warehouse involving “scrap vehicles” on Saturday (23 May) evening.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) posted a PSA on their Facebook page about being alerted to a fire at around 7pm.
We summarise the events below.
100 firefighters & 19 vehicles deployed to blaze
At around 7pm, a fire was reported along No.6 Sungei Kadut Way — this is in between Yew Tee Village and the lower half of Kranji, along the Pang Sua Canal.
100 firefighters and 19 emergency vehicles were deployed to a 2-storey warehouse where the blaze was first reported.
Upon arrival, SCDF states that a fire was “raging” within the premises as efforts were made to “surround and contain” the flames.
The massive fire was reportedly extinguished successfully by 9.15pm.
Two workers also sustained “minor injuries” but refused offers to send them to the hospital.
2-hour fire involved “scrap vehicles”
The fire had involved an unspecified number of vehicles — include “scrap vehicles” within the warehouse.
Water and foam jets – 7 in total – and an “unmanned firefighting machine” were deployed to put out the fire.
A picture uploaded by SCDF shows how some vehicles were drenched in water in the aftermath of the blaze.
Paramedics were also on scene to treat the workers who had been injured due to the fire within the warehouse.
Though the fire involved scrap vehicles within the warehouse, SCDF closes their update by stating that the exact cause of the fire will be under investigation.
Speedy recovery to the injured workers
We do hope that they’ll get to the bottom of the origin of the fire soon, as the warehouse is located across Pang Sua Canal, in driving distance to the Blk 683 clusters of HDB flats near Unity Primary School at Choa Chu Kang Cres.
Kudos to our brave SCDF firefighters for helping to contain the fire swiftly. We hope that the workers who are injured have a speedy recovery.
