Paya Lebar temperature on 7 Dec broke previous record for December set in 2016
After a rainy November, the weather in December has swung to the other extreme, with high temperatures recorded.
Particularly, the temperature reached 36.2°C at Paya Lebar last Saturday (7 Dec), said the National Environment Agency (NEA) in a Facebook post.
7 Dec temperature in Paya Lebar came amid a few days of dry weather
Despite a “wet start” to the month, this was followed by a few days with little or no rainfall, NEA said.
The dry weather was accompanied by high temperatures, culminating in the highest daily maximum temperature ever recorded in Singapore for the month of December.
The 36.2°C temperature notched at Paya Lebar surpassed the previous record of 35.9°C, set on 6 Dec 2016.
Fine weather expected in 1st week of Dec, with more rainfall returning in 2nd week
November was ‘exceptionally wet’
In contrast, November was “exceptionally wet”, with an average rainfall of 419.0mm islandwide, NEA said.
This was the highest on record for the month of November since 1980, and 47.4% above the month’s long-term average.
The previous record of 390.1mm was set 32 years ago in Nov 1992.
Accordingly, the highest daily maximum temperature recorded in the second half of November was 34.8°C.
Wetter weather expected in coming week
Relief from the warm weather is at hand, according to the NEA.
The coming week is expected to be wetter, with thundery showers in the afternoon on most days.
Thus, the total rainfall for the first half of December should be “near average” over most parts of the island, NEA added.
