Blind Tissue Seller Allegedly Robbed At Yishun

Update (9 May, 10am): A 64-year-old woman has been arrested by the police for the alleged robbery, reported The Straits Times.

Officers from the Woodlands Police Division made the arrest in an unnamed vicinity along Woodlands Street 12 on Wednesday (9 May) after confirming the identity of the woman.

If guilty, the 64-year-old woman may be jailed for up to 3 years, fined or both.


Many of us may have seen tissue sellers on Singapore’s streets going about their business to make ends meet every day.

A netizen named Ms Vincent took to Facebook on Wednesday (1 May) claiming that a blind tissue seller at Yishun allegedly had her entire day’s earnings robbed.

Blind tissue seller allegedly robbed at Yishun

According to Ms Vincent, the blind tissue seller was stationed at the Yishun underground tunnel linking Yishun MRT to Northpoint shopping centre.

On Tuesday (30 Apr) at around 7.20pm, a woman allegedly grabbed the blind seller’s bag which contained her entire day’s earnings and took off.

The blind lady sensed she was robbed and led out a scream for help.

Robber ran off

Upon hearing the cry for help, a kind Samaritan immediately gave chase but unfortunately, the robber managed to get away.

The good-hearted lady, however, managed to snap a photo of the alleged robber.

Alleged robber has been arrested

In her post, Ms Vincent said that she intends on reporting the incident to the police.

On Thursday (9 May), the police have arrested a 64-year-old woman believed to be the robber and investigations are ongoing.

In the meantime, we are heartened that kind Singaporeans have stepped up to help the blind tissue seller in this incident.

Let’s hope that she will have her hard-earned money returned to her soon.
