Man stabs high-speed train seat with knife after dispute with another passenger

On Saturday (16 Nov), a man used a concealed knife to aggressively stab a seat on a high-speed train in Taiwan after having a dispute with a female passenger over him blocking the aisle.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 11am on the High-Speed Rail (HSR) Train 814 heading north.

After the attack, the perpetrator fled the scene, prompting police to conduct a search for him.

The complainant, Ms Liu (name transliterated from Chinese), explained that while the High-Speed Rail (HSR) train was at Miaoli Station, she came across a man who had been sitting with his legs crossed, obstructing the aisle.

She confronted him about the obstruction, which escalated into an argument, reported Taiwanese news media ETtoday.

During the confrontation, the man became agitated and started shouting at her. He also started striking her, which led to swelling on her cheek.

Other passengers attempted to intervene, urging the man to move to an empty seat nearby.

In a fit of rage, the man threw his backpack onto the overhead rack and floor, then pulled out a 30 cm knife, forcefully stabbing the seat in front of him.

The knife pierced the seat’s fold-out table, prompting passengers to flee in panic.

Hurriedly escaped after train alighted at Taipei Station

When the train reached Taipei Station, the man quickly disembarked and escaped.

Police arrived, collected evidence, and confiscated the knife.

They have determined the suspect’s age to be between 30 and 50 years and are continuing their search for him.
