85% of S’pore’s bus ETA system restored after manual firmware updates for 3,000 affected buses

ETA system restored

85% of bus Expected Time of Arrival system restored, 1,000 more buses to be updated

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced that 85% of the bus Expected Time of Arrival (ETA) system has been restored, following recent issues with inaccurate or missing real-time bus arrival information on bus stop displays and mobile apps.

In a Facebook update on 27 Jan, LTA explained that the restoration was made possible by completing manual firmware updates on 3,000 affected buses.

Due to the need for manual intervention, the process took longer than anticipated.

Another 1,000 buses to be updated

LTA also revealed that an additional 1,000 buses have been identified as requiring similar updates.

These updates will be carried out progressively over the next week, during off-peak hours, to minimise disruptions to daily bus services.

Despite the system restoration still being in progress, LTA reassured commuters that bus services will continue to run at normal frequencies.

They also expressed gratitude to commuters for their patience and understanding as the issue is being resolved.

Commuters seek timeline for full restoration

As the restoration continues, some netizens have called for a clearer timeline regarding when the system will be fully operational again.

Veteran journalist Bertha Henson added her voice to the conversation, asking for a definitive date on when the issue will be completely resolved.

“What is the point of telling us that some will be fixed by when and others by when? Do we actually know which are the right arrival times? Just give a date when all have been fixed leh,” she wrote.

However, a commenter reassured others, noting that the system had not experienced such a breakdown in over a decade and encouraged patience while the necessary updates are completed.

Meanwhile, another netizen praised LTA for its ongoing efforts, stating that the agency has done a “great job” in addressing the issue.
