Car catches fire in Bishan open-air parking lot
A car was caught on fire at a Bishan HDB open-air parking lot. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) reportedly arrived in time to put out the flames.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident occurred at 2.20pm on 25 Nov in the open-air carpark below Block 258 Bishan Street 22.
Engine catches fire
Photos taken of the incident showed the hood of a silver car ablaze, with smoke coming out of the engine of the car.
A fire engine was also seen parked in front of it, with firefighters preparing to put out the fire.
A Shin Min Daily News reporter who visited the scene in the afternoon reported that the burnt car had been towed away, and there were no obvious signs of damage at the parking lot, as well as the black car parked beside the burnt vehicle.
Mr Hatton (name transliterated), a nearby resident, revealed that flames only came out of the car after the arrival of the SCDF.
Thereafter, firefighters used a water jet to put out the vehicular fire.
He shared: “The SCDF was very efficient and put out the fire very quickly. There was no damage to the black car next to it.”
Not the first such incident
Mr Hatton said that a sports car had caught fire mysteriously in the same carpark before. It wasn’t in the same parking lot but he still found it strange to have two of such incidents within a few months of each other.
Another resident, Mr Chen Qing Cai (name transliterated) said that he had smelt smoke and gone out to check. That was when he saw the car on fire.
“The civil defence personnel were present at the time, and the police arrived afterwards. I heard from my wife that the authorities were looking around for the owner of the car,” the 66-year-old management personnel said.
In response to MS News‘ queries, SCDF confirmed the incident and that the fire involved the engine compartment of a car.
The fire was extinguished by firefighters using a water jet and there were no reported injuries.
It is yet unclear what had caused the fire.
