Car knocks over child in Yishun HDB carpark

On Wednesday (22 May), the SG Road Vigilante – SGRV Facebook page posted a video of an accident involving a child and a car at an Yishun HDB carpark.

A young boy was hit by an oncoming vehicle while attempting to retrieve a soccer ball that had bounced onto the road.

Many netizens have called for better facilities for children to play at, instead of the HDB void deck.

Child attempts to retrieve soccer ball from road

According to SGRV, the incident occurred at a carpark at Block 435 Yishun Avenue around 3pm on Tuesday (22 May).

The clip shows a young boy in a red shirt retrieving a soccer ball that had bounced onto the road.

However, he fails to notice a black car heading towards him, and subsequently gets knocked over.

Two other children, presumably the boy’s friends, can be seen looking on with concerned expressions.

The children and the driver of the vehicle rush to the boy’s aid, after which the clip ends.

In response to queries from MS News, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed it was alerted to the accident at about 3.05pm.

They conveyed the young boy to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Netizens call for better playing facilities

After watching the footage, several Facebook commenters applauded the driver for stopping his vehicle before causing a more serious collision.

Others faulted the young boy’s parents for not “monitoring” their child.

Overall, many netizens agreed that more secure facilities need to be built for children to be able to play safely.
