Harbourfront Station staff returns envelope containing S$10k cash to passenger
In a Facebook post on Monday (21 Oct), SBS Transit Ltd commended the efforts of an MRT staff member who returned an envelope containing S$10,000 in cash to a passenger who had misplaced it.
Mr Soh Sin Chye, a 44-year-old Customer Service Officer, had chanced upon the brown envelope while patrolling a train at Harbourfront MRT Station.
An identity card and a passport were found in the envelope together with a wad of one-hundred dollar bills.
Initially surprised by the huge sum of money, Mr Soh said that his first thought was “it needed to be returned safely”.
“It must have been incredibly important to the owner,” he told SBS.
He subsequently contacted the Operations Control Centre who instructed him to pass the envelope over to the station staff for safekeeping.
Passenger returned to station 2 hours later to claim envelope
In the same post, SBS shared that the said passenger came searching for the envelope two hours after Mr Soh had found it.
“A distressed passenger arrived at the station, explaining anxiously that he had left an envelope filled with cash on the train,” the post said.
After confirming that the passenger was the rightful owner of the envelope, Mr Soh proceeded to personally hand over the envelope to the man.
“I’m really happy that I could help out when he needed it most,” Mr Soh was reported saying as he smiled.
The bus service’s Facebook page proceeded to praise the staff for his integrity and “exceptional service”.
“Well done, Sin Chye, for going above and beyond to make a positive impact on our passenger’s journey!”
