Couple arrested for dumping dead patient & 3-year-old baby by deserted road
A husband and wife who own a clinic in Cambodia are facing multiple charges after dumping the body of a patient whose death was caused by an unknown injection administered in their clinic.
According to the Phnom Penh Post, the couple confessed to abandoning the body of 41-year-old Ms Nam Chanthou.
They also left the victim’s 3-year-old niece alone with the corpse in an underbrush along a deserted road, nearly 4km from their clinic in Takeo province in southern Cambodia.
Concealed victim’s body following death caused by injection
On Monday (18 Nov), 39-year-old Sun Marina reportedly applied an unknown injection to the victim, causing her to suffer a severe reaction and die on the spot.
Marina and her husband, 37-year-old Hieng Songhak, then decided to hide the body by dumping it in a forested area in a nearby commune, along with the victim’s 3-year-old niece.
On Thursday (21 Nov), the couple were taken to court by the police.
The couple were found to have been running the clinic without a licence.
Their clinic, named Songhak Marina Maternity and Treatment Clinic, is situated in Boeung Ponhea Kuk village in Bati district.
Following an investigation, the Takeo provincial court charged Marina with four offences, including involuntary manslaughter, unauthorized practice of medicine, corpse concealment, torture and cruel treatment leading to severe harm to the victim.
Her husband faced charges of practising medicine without a license, helping to conceal a corpse, and supporting the torture and cruel treatment causing severe harm to the victim.
Their clinic was shut down by authorities on Tuesday (19 Nov).
