Singapore Customs conducts operation at Toh Guan dormitory, arrests 14 for duty-unpaid cigarettes offences
Fourteen men were arrested after Singapore Customs carried out a targeted enforcement operation at a worker dormitory and industrial building.
According to a Facebook post posted on Wednesday (4 Feb), the authorities conducted the operation at an industrial building and a foreign worker dormitory along Toh Guan Road East on 28 Jan.
The enforcement sweep was carried out to clamp down on the sale and demand of duty-unpaid cigarettes

More than 170 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes seized
During the operation, officers seized more than 170 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes.
Singapore Customs said the enforcement action was part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal cigarette activities, which include the buying, selling, storing, and consumption of duty-unpaid cigarettes.

12 offenders fined, 2 charged in State Courts
Following investigations, 12 of the 14 men were compounded with fines ranging from S$500 to S$800.
The remaining two men were charged in the State Courts on 30 Jan.
Singapore Customs reminded the public that offences involving duty-unpaid cigarettes carry severe penalties.
“Don’t risk it,” the post said. “It’s not worth it.”
