S’poreans Donate 370,000 Masks To Dormitory Workers Who Can’t Buy Essentials During CB

Migrant Workers’ Centre Deliver Essential Items Like Masks & Soap Bars To Dormitories

As of Wednesday (6 May), Singapore is 30 days into our ‘Circuit Breaker’ that restricts the movement of citizens. This includes our migrant workers currently staying in dormitories.

A concern is that these workers cannot leave their dorms to purchase day-to-day items that they need, such as masks and toiletries.

To address this worry, the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC) started an initiative to distribute essential goods, ranging from face masks to bar soaps.

This will ensure all 120,000 migrant workers have what they need during the next month of ‘Circuit Breaker’.

MWC donates 370,000 reusable masks to all dormitory workers

Many of us are taking this #StayHome experience to explore new hobbies and whipping up new recipes. But this is not the case for everyone in Singapore.

MWC explains that unlike us, migrant workers might not have the travel freedom to do a quick grocery run or even buy essential supplies.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday (5 May), the organisation is proud to announce that they have distributed 370,000 reusable masks to all dorms.

The government’s MaskForce also provided an additional mask kit, to ensure they have sufficient protective gear during Covid-19.

This is alongside a list of other items, like bar soap, hand sanitisers, and laundry bars which will make a good survival package for this season.

Furthermore, MCW is looking into giving out 120,000 toothbrush and toothpaste kits, shavers, shampoo, shower gel and disinfectants by 17 May, as stated on Facebook.

More initiatives like the provision of meals are also being simultaneously implemented.

Their thoughtful and comprehensive plan will certainly provide great support to the migrant worker community in Singapore.

It is heartwarming to see so many sponsors, donors and volunteers banding together to make this project a swift success.

By unconditionally showing support for one another, it will strengthen our solidarity during this rough patch, pushing us forward in days to come.

Here’s hoping that the migrant workers’ needs are fully taken care of during this difficult period for them.
