Man’s Wife Clears Fridge & Finds Historic Green Beans That Expired In 1999

Couple In Malaysia Finds Green Beans From 1999 In Their Fridge

There are many things we wish we could bring back from the 90s – music, TV shows and Windows Live Messenger – but green beans isn’t one of them.

A couple in Malaysia got a shocking blast from the past while clearing old food from their fridge.

They found a packet of green beans that had apparently expired in 1999. That’s 20 years ago if you need help with some quick math.

Expired food from several years ago still in fridge

Fridges are treasure chests full of leftover food you may be too full to finish and plan to return to later.

But sometimes in the midst of having piping hot meals from the newest eatery every other day, we end up forgetting the ones we’ve left behind.

A Malaysian couple rediscovered some of their previous food stocks while conducting a routine cleanup of their fridge on Sunday (22 Dec).

Finding items from as far back as a few years ago, the run-of-the-mill activity turned into an amusing trip down memory lane.

Packet of green beans expired in 1999

The initial discovery of a food item from 2011 was astonishing until they found a much older item that gave them the shock of their lives.

Trumping the first find by a good 12 years, a packet of green beans from 1999 sent the couple hollering in disbelief.

Twitter user @paantastik shared the discovery in a viral tweet on 22 Dec, that has garnered over 24,000 shares at the time of writing.

His accompanying caption loosely translates from Malay to:

My wife cleaned the fridge in our house. Found something that expired in 2011 that day, but today she found something more legendary. Green beans with expiration date 25/6/1999. HAHAHA.

For those of you who were born in the same year, these beans are as old as you!

Clear your fridge regularly

Before you argue that the date could have been a misprint, you’ll find that the date of packaging was in May 1999, which explains why it should have expired in Jun 1999.

So those beans are really looking pretty flawless despite sitting in the fridge for so many years. Maybe that’s a beauty secret there.

Whatever the sorcery may be, we doubt they’re safe for consumption. And neither are those old food items in your fridge, so remember to throw them out.
