Huawei $54 Phone Sales Cause Chaos At S’pore Malls, Police Seen Regulating Crowds

Huawei Apologises For Sold Out Phones, Asks Everyone To Stop Going To Their Stores For $54 Offer

Huawei‘s affordable phones continue to take Singapore by storm.

Their Y6 Pro $54 promotion was supposed to be held for 3 days — from Friday (26 Jul) till Sunday (28 Jul).

However, things had gone entirely out of hand when members of the public – comprising mostly senior citizens – came in hordes to get their hands on the phones.

They quickly formed snaking queues at a feverish pace throughout Singapore malls.

Huawei apologises

At 10.30am, Huawei issued an official apology on their Facebook, saying that they are unable to provide the masses with the $54 promotion due to overwhelming demand.

They also advised everyone NOT to proceed to any of their 27 outlets as all Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 models are sold out.

In a later update, Huawei said they have to close several of their stores for security reasons.

The following outlets will be closed:

  • Tampines Mall
  • Bugis Junction
  • Lot One
  • Jurong Point
  • 313@Somerset

Phones are being resold on Carousell

Very soon after the phones were sold out, opportunistic re-sellers are already being spotted on Carousell.

One of these re-sellers set the price at S$75 at 9am on Friday (26 Jul).

Another went further and marked the price up to $128.

Enjoy using your Huaweis, lucky ones

Although the offer was good, it’s unfortunate the promotion raised such furore among Huawei fans. We hope the lucky few who managed to snag the phone will thoroughly enjoy using its features — after all, $54 was indeed a steal.
