Woman accuses husband of cheating after fortune-teller tells her so
A woman accusing her husband of cheating made the news in China after it was discovered that she had based her allegation on an online session with a fortune-teller.
Anhui Broadcasting Corporation reported the incident, which occurred in Wuhu, Anhui Province on 22 Oct, leading to widespread public attention.
However, it is unclear what exactly the woman asked the fortune teller or why she consulted one.
Wife believes fortune-teller’s predictions were highly accurate
Zhao Xingyu, a police officer from the Guandou Police Station, said the woman spent RMB500 (S$91) to consult the “fortune-telling master” who told her that her husband was having an affair.

“The master requested the fee, and having already paid, she believed their interpretation must be accurate,” he said.
Additionally, Mr Zhao explained that the woman trusted the fortune-teller as others had claimed their predictions were highly accurate.
Husband sought police’s help
The woman’s husband has denied the accusations, swearing that he never had an affair.
He further explained that every time he returned home late, it was due to being busy.
However, the wife was completely convinced he had cheated and thought he was lying.
“She’s been calling this fortune-teller non-stop since early morning,” he claimed, adding that the fortune-teller had told his wife that he had checked into hotels with other women and even solicited prostitutes.

Unable to bear his wife’s accusations, the desperate husband sought assistance from the police.
Following the report, the authorities criticised the woman for her superstitious behaviour and helped mediate the conflict between the couple.
Incident draws mixed reactions
The report drew mixed reactions from netizens.
According to SCMP, one individual speculated that the wife may have just been fishing for a confession.
Another advised that the husband should apologise and make amends if he truly cheated, but divorce his accusing wife if he had not.
Others believe the woman should be punished for being “obsessed” with the fortune-teller’s prediction, while some suggested the husband should similarly tell his wife that he had consulted a fortune-teller and accuse her of having children with another man.
