Johor Princess Visits Zaibo
As the simple-minded mee rebus seller Yusof in Under One Roof, Zaibo brought smiles to thousands of Singaporeans.
The Princess of Johor, Aminah Binti Sultan Ibrahim, returned the favour on Monday (Nov 12) when she visited Zaibo at his home in Rengit, Batu Pahat.
Zaibo was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 esophageal cancer. The cancer has since spread to his stomach, lungs and left rib cage.
Princess Aminah was moved by news reports of Zaibo’s plight and decided to pay him a visit. She was joined by her husband, Dennis Muhammad Abdullah.
With tears in her eyes, Princess Aminah reportedly told Zaibo,
I used to watch ‘Under One Roof’ growing up. I told my husband how funny you were and showed him videos of you.
The Princess didn’t show up empty-handed. She brought along a fruit basket as well as a goody bag.
Zaibo’s terrible diagnosis
In September, Zaibo told The Straits Times that he had lost about 10kg in 2 months.
This is because he has trouble keeping down solid food. His diet is now restricted to liquid food, such as high-protein milk, soup, plain porridge and fruit juice.
The 62-year-old is currently seeking treatment at Sungai Buloh Hospital in Petaling.
Zaibo is viewing his diagnosis positively, saying that he feels OK to live normally. He told ST,
I don’t feel sick. I can walk, talk, do housework and send my kids to school.
Past brushes with cancer
Unfortunately, cancer isn’t new to the Johor Royal Family. The Star reports that Princess Aminah’s late brother, Prince Abdul Jalil lost his battle with cancer in December 2015.
Prince Abdul Jalil was just 25. He passed away a year after being diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer. He is buried at the Mahmoodiah Royal Mausoleum in Johor Bahru.
