After hearing the charge, Haffiq, who appeared with no legal representation, pleaded not guilty.

The police report stated that Haffiq had met the unnamed girl, who is a school dropout, on social media several months ago.

Afterwards, the two began having sexual relations, Harian Metro reported.

The girl, accompanied by her mother, filed a police report on 4 Nov, which led to the man’s arrest two days later.

Man may face 20 years in jail and whipping

The court allowed Haffiq to post a bail of RM10,000 (S$3,150) with one surety, or a person who will ensure that the accused appears in court proceedings.

He was also ordered to report to the nearest police station once a month and is prohibited from contacting witnesses until the case concludes.

On 6 Jan 2026, Haffiq is set to appear in court for document submission and appointment of counsel.

If proven guilty, the defendant faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and whipping.
