At around 5am on Sunday (13 Oct), a 59-year-old man was kidnapped by gunmen in front of his home in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

During the kidnapping, the businessman was threatened with a gun, beaten with a wooden stick, and had his head covered with a cloth.

The abduction took place while he was preparing to take a taxi to Johor Bahru Senai International Airport.

The remaining amount was transferred to a bank account through a friend from Singapore.

The victim was released 14 hours later, as reported by Lianhe Zaobao.

He informed the police that there were four kidnappers involved, including a woman, but he was unsure of their nationalities.

Royal Malaysian Police Johor Chief Inspector Kumar said that a statement would be issued only after a thorough investigation.

Local news reported that the victim was a wealthy businessman hailing from Perak who relocated to Johor several years ago.
