Man gets stuck in toilet window trying to evade immigration enforcers in Malaysia

A man was stuck in a toilet window of a flat after trying to escape immigration enforcers in Teragganu, Malaysia.

The migrant worker from Bangladesh was rescued by the same officers he was fleeing from and was subsequently caught.

Officers had to use a ladder to free the man in his 40s from the window frame.

This happened during a crackdown operation from 9pm on 24 Oct to 6am on 25 Oct.

35 illegal workers arrested during operation

According to Terengganu Immigration Department Acting Director Mat Amin Hassan, 218 foreign workers were checked into a flat in Kuala Terengganu.

Among them, 35 were found to be illegal foreign workers, aged between 15 to 53.

These include 10 people from Bangladesh, seven from Indonesia, one from India, seven from Pakistan, and 10 from Myanmar, which included two teenagers and a woman.

Workers to be investigated for overstaying

The illegal workers attempted to escape using the emergency staircase and elevators but failed as Immigration officers blocked all routes, Mr Hassan told Harian Metro.

The workers have been sent to the  Ajil Immigration Detention Depot and are being investigated for failure to produce legal documents and overstaying.

The authorities have also summoned two local men to provide statements to aid in the investigation.

The Immigration Department will take strict action against anyone found to employ and shelter undocumented immigrants, Mr Hassan stressed.
