Italian luxury brand Moschino unveils ‘giant celery’ bag
In the latest quirky — and baffling — addition to high fashion, Italian luxury brand Moschino has introduced a handbag shaped like a giant stalk of celery.
Dubbed the Sedano Bag, this unusual accessory is priced at US$4,995 (around S$6,612) on the brand’s website, excluding shipping fees.
Highly realistic celery bag
Moschino’s website describes the celery bag as a clutch, with each “leaf” meticulously handcrafted to capture the vegetable’s organic look.
The leaves, for instance, come in two shades of green to “add depth, harmony, and realism”.

Meanwhile, the bag’s print comes with a “three-dimensional effect” for added authenticity.
Moschino says the bag’s distinctive design “represents the symbol of [its] irreverent spirit,” embodying the brand’s signature playful approach.

Interestingly, celery has a historical connection to symbolism; in ancient Greece, it was used to crown victors in athletic contests and later took on more sombre connotations as a funerary symbol at banquets.
Moschino’s new celery bag follows its 2020 launch of a “baguette” clutch, which amused consumers with its hefty price tag of £758 (around S$1,290).
“£758 to look like you’re holding a Subway,” wrote one person then.
Much like before, netizens didn’t hold back their reactions to the celery bag.
On a TikTok post showing off the bag, one commenter said: “I’ll have the TEMU version for $9.”
Another added: “Even Moschino makes mistakes.”

Supermarket chain joins in
Following Moschino’s release, UK-based supermarket chain Aldi joined the conversation, sharing a TikTok post flaunting its fresh celery.
The post cheekily read: “Your move, Moschino, but we do have a whole veg aisle.”
The celery is available at just 75p apiece (around S$1.30).
Not Balenciaga this time
Eccentric luxury items mimicking everyday items are not uncommon.
Earlier in October, Balenciaga released a wallet resembling a crumpled-up chip bag, which sparked a mix of criticism and amusement online.
In 2023, the brand also introduced a towel-inspired skirt that drew comparisons to IKEA’s much cheaper towel alternative.
