Passenger Allegedly Scolds Grab Driver For Waiting At Main Road Instead Of Location Entrance
Taxi and private-hire drivers spend long hours on the road and oftentimes, still have to deal with unreasonable or rude passengers.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday (14 Feb), a Grab driver shared that he was picking up a passenger and was told by security to wait along the main road.
As he was turning out, the passenger banged on his car door window, boarded his vehicle and proceeded to ‘shoot her mouth off’ at him.
Feeling degraded, he immediately cancelled the trip and told the passenger to leave his vehicle.
Could not find passenger at pick up point
On Tuesday (14 Feb) at around 7.25pm, the driver was on his way to pick up a passenger from Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC).
Before arriving, he received a message from her saying she was already at the stated pick-up location.
But upon reaching, the driver claimed that he did not see the passenger at the main entrance. He then turned into the school and asked security where he should wait.
The security guard instructed him to wait along the main road.
As he was turning out of the school, the driver heard a loud banging on his rear left window.
Woman allegedly scolds Grab driver
When he turned around, he saw a lady opening the door and entering his vehicle. Upon getting inside, she allegedly started scolding the driver.
The Grab driver alleged that she treated him “like a kid who made a lot of mistakes”.
“It was the most degrading moment of my life,” he said.
With the lady allegedly berating him in his car, the driver went on his phone and cancelled the trip. He then turned to face the passenger and asked her to leave his vehicle.
The driver’s actions apparently left the passenger in “complete shock”. Even as she alighted from his car, she allegedly cursed and swore at him.
She also threatened to complain about the driver to Grab.
In the comments section, the driver said he had lodged a complaint with Grab regarding the passenger.
Other drivers support decision
The driver said that that was the first time he had ever cancelled on a passenger after they had already boarded the car.
Nonetheless, netizens spoke out in support of his decision. One individual said that as drivers, they have every right to cancel on abusive customers.
Another commenter shared that a driver’s job is to get passengers to their destinations safely. They should not have to deal with such disparaging behaviour.
Meanwhile, a fellow driver remarked that such passengers will probably give him more problems and that cancelling her ride was a fair choice.
In response, the driver shared that he simply turned off the app and went off to dinner after the incident.
