Billionaire Peter Lim Treats Healthcare Workers To Meals With $1 Million Worth Of Food Vouchers

Since the beginning of the year, we’ve all come to a common consensus that healthcare workers are our heroes. They deserve our utmost respect and support, braving the frontline so that the rest of us can stay safe at home.

And it seems that billionaire Peter Lim agrees.

In a generous show of appreciation, the Singaporean businessman thanked healthcare workers for their efforts by treating them to $1 million worth of meals, reports The Straits Times.

According to a statement issued by his private office, Mr Lim hopes the meals will boost the morale of frontline healthcare workers, bringing them some comfort during these dark times.

Encouragement in the form of food vouchers

The treat is extended to at least 20,000 workers from various hospitals and clinics. These include:

  • Alexandra Hospital
  • Changi General Hospital
  • Khoo Teck Puat Hospital
  • KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital
  • National University Hospital
  • Ng Teng Fong General Hospital
  • Sengkang General Hospital
  • Singapore General Hospital
  • Tan Tock Seng Hospital
  • National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID)

Besides doctors and nurses, other “unsung heroes” such as housekeeping staff, ambulance drivers and patient care assistants will benefit from the treat as well.

While their work is often less visible, Mr Lim believes it is as important as frontline response.

Meals can be redeemed all over Singapore

To ensure maximum outreach, the treat will come in the form of food vouchers.

These food vouchers can be used at at over 160 participating food outlets, including the likes of Kopitiam, Foodfare and Fei Siong.

This way, workers all over Singapore can easily pop in to their local eateries and redeem their meals fuss-free.

Peter Lim, who is he?

For the uninitiated, Peter Lim is a Singaporean businessman who earned US$1.5 billion after he cashed out of palm oil giant Wilmar in 2010.

In 2019, Forbes ranked him as the 10th richest Singaporean, with his wealth worth US$2.5 billion.

He is also the owner of Valencia CF, a Spanish professional football club.

Keeping our frontline strong both physically & mentally

Battling the pandemic every day is tough, and our frontline workers need to be physically and mentally strong to soldier on.

The generous treat will definitely give frontline workers energy and encouragement to continue the fight against Covid-19. Kudos to Mr Lim for the thoughtful gesture.

Let’s rally behind our frontline heroes and continue supporting them during this difficult time.
