In a Facebook post on 9 May, PM Lee shared that Cabinet meetings have been happening on a weekly basis “year in and year out”.
The meetings took place regularly even during the Covid-19 pandemic, albeit with a shift to teleconferencing.
“These meetings are a crucial platform for discussing national issues, major policies, and matters that affect all our lives,” he said.
PM Lee noted that it has been his “privilege” to lead the Cabinet team for the past two decades.
He noted that the PM is “primus inter pares” during such meetings. This means he’s “not the boss with his subordinates” but rather the “first among equals” as they find discuss solutions to tackle issues in Singapore.
He took the opportunity to thank his colleagues for their steadfast support.
Will continue to contribute as Senior Minister
PM Lee proceeded to state that from next week, DPM Wong will take charge of Cabinet meetings. However, he will continue to contribute as Senior Minister.
“Singapore will be in good hands under the 4G team and I am ready to support the new team in their work for Singapore’s success,” he added.
On Wednesday (8 May), PM Lee also had his final Parliament sitting as PM.
To thank him for his contributions, female Members of Parliament (MPs) from the People’s Action Party (PAP) and Shangri-La hotel pastry chef Herve Potus designed a cake, which included some of his favourite items.
