PM Lee Tours Osaka After G20 & Bumps Into Fellow Singaporeans

PM Lee Spends A Day Touring Osaka After G20 Summit

The G20 Summit in Osaka was fraught with issues. The trade war between US and China, US refusal to enter into the Paris climate deal, Theresa May’s confrontation with Vladimir Putin over the Skripal poisoning and the outrage over journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s death.

So when it ended – albeit with nothing really solved – it must have been a temporary relief for some participants.

Our Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong certainly seemed so, looking at some of his pictures.

Food and fun in Osaka

PM Lee and his wife Ho Ching took the streets of Dotonbori, the famous entertainment and food district in Osaka.

The first thing PM Lee noticed where the extravagent 3-D “signboards of some kind”. Clearly, this isn’t something we see regularly in Singapore.

Then, he had some roasted chestnuts which according to him were “piping hot and delicious”. If only the owner knew who had graced his store, he would have no sooner taken out his phone and asked for a picture.

Next, PM Lee treated himself to some Takoyakis — octupus dough balls. Where better to have them than in their birthplace — Osaka.

As he and his wife hunted for food, they ran into fellow Singaporeans who happened to be on holiday in Japan. It’s always nice seeing someone from your country abroad.

It is certainly heartening to see our Prime Minister having some fun on his own time. For all the hard work he’s put into running country, he deserves it.
