Youths on PMDs speed along Punggol North Avenue road, swerve left & right between lanes

Youth riders speed along road in Punggol on PMDs

In a clip uploaded to r/Singapore on Reddit, three youths were filmed speeding on their Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) along Punggol North Avenue.

The youths appeared to be riding motorised mobility devices resembling e-bikes.

Speaking to MS News, the OP shared that the incident occurred on Sunday (13 Oct) at about 3pm.

According to the OP, the riders were swerving between lanes and eventually conformed to driving on the left-most lane when they saw the OP approaching.

Upon spotting them on the road, the OP slowed down “just in case”. “Some cars do travel fast on that stretch,” he told MS News.

“I slowed down to 50 km/h. So can you imagine how fast these kids were going,” the OP shared in a comment.

Other users also chimed into the discourse, adding that the stretch of road in Punggol is notorious for being a race track for PMA riders.

Motorised PMDs and PABs must be authorised by LTA

According to the Land Transport Authority (LTA), e-bikes, also known as Power-Assisted Bicycles (PABs) must be type-approved, sealed, and registered before use.

These devices should meet the technical requirements put forth by LTA. The LTA has also provided an approved list of PAB models as of 1 July 2024.

LTA-approved devices can be identified by an orange seal and a valid registration plate. Users must also be at least 16 years old to ride an e-bike.

While PABs are allowed on Singapore roads, riding a non-compliant device is an offence.
