Singapore Red Cross Website Hacked Into Last Wed (8 May)
The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) released a statement today (16 May) saying that its website had been illegally accessed last Wed (8 May), compromising the personal details of 4,297 registered potential blood donors.
The part of the website accessed contained details of people who had registered to be blood donors. The registration details include:
- Name
- Contact number
- Blood type
- Preferred appointment slot for donation
SRC acts like an intermediary. It collects the details of willing blood donors and matches them to various blood banks around Singapore.
No other databases affected
Fortunately, none of SRC’s other databases were affected.
SRC has reported the incident to the police, the Personal Data Protection Commission and the Health Sciences Authority (HSA), and an investigation is currently underway.
Note: This is a developing story and we will continue to update it as more information is released.
