Man in China asks for help in restarting late father’s phone

Despite rarely using social media, a man from Guanxi, China took to Xiaohongshu to ask for help restarting his late father’s phone.

In a post on 15 Nov, Mr Tian shared that his father died of illness in 2010 and he was unable to see him for the last time.

He was given his father’s phone to keep and its battery was removed fearing that battery leakage might damage the phone over time.

“Is there any way to find a suitable battery? I really want to take another look at the information inside,” he wrote in his post.

Doesn’t want to forget his face and voice

“After 14 years, I slowly can’t remember my father’s voice, smile and appearance,” Mr Tian told Upstream News.

He added that the memory of his father’s death was so painful that he locked the phone in a drawer and eventually forgot about it as time passed by.

This year, when he moved to his old house, he found the phone again and remembered the conversations he had with his father.

Netizens eager to help man restart his father’s phone

Mr Tian’s social media post received much attention from netizens who were eager to help, sharing suggestions on how to fix and restart the phone.

Mr Tian expressed:

I was shocked at the time. I didn’t expect that this post would be viewed by nearly 188,000 people. Thousands of netizens left me messages and private messages. Everyone gave me advice enthusiastically.

Among those who extended help was Mr Huang, who sells and repairs phones in Huaqiangbei, Shenzhen.

He had sent a photo of the phone to local battery parts suppliers for inquiry.

“I won’t make any money from this, but I will help you with it,” he told Mr Tian.

Mr Huang shared that he had a best friend from childhood who had also passed away in 2010, which urged him to help Mr Tian.

Mr Tian plans to meet Mr Huang in Huaqiangbei once he is sure a replacement battery has been found.

“I hope to find text messages sent by my father. It would be even better if there are videos, pictures, and voice messages.”
