Malaysian Man Helps Struggling Chinese Family Spring Clean & Repaint House For Chinese New Year
With the impending arrival of Chinese New Year, many are starting to spring clean, decorating their homes and stocking up their snack bar.
For this Malaysian family staying in a rental flat, they, however, struggled to even afford clean water and keep a roof over their head.
With a house cluttered with garbage and piling bills, the family was severely crippled.
Fortunately, a kind Malaysian man by the name of Mohd Fadli Salleh, who is a teacher, came across their story.
He and his team subsequently spent 2 weeks helping to clean the house, even going the extra mile to re-floor and repaint the flat.
The family can now spend a warmer CNY in their refurbished home, as we learnt from his heartwarming Facebook post on Sunday (19 Jan).
Could not afford rent & water bills
The family was in a predicament before Mr Mohd Fadli stepped in.
Due to chronic illnesses, the father can’t go out to work, which makes the family dependent only on the mother’s pay from her job as a hotel service staff.
Determine to ease the financial burden, they frequently collected garbage and second-hand items in hopes that they can recycle them for money.
This was a failed endeavor considering their situation and the trash accumulated in the apartment.
Their water supply was cut and their home was almost taken away as they were unable to pay their bills.
It was a hopeless situation for the family until Mr Mohd Fadli stepped in.
Giving house a complete makeover
Mr Mohd Fadli took initiative to investigate when he was told that the 2 young children of the family had to shower in their neighbor’s house before school.
He did not hesitate to help gather a team to help with the spring clean when he witnessed the poor conditions that they were living in.
With the help of Dana Kita – a Malaysian charity organisation – they scrubbed down the apartment for free and manage to get the family access to clean water once again.
Spanning across 2 weeks, it reportedly took almost 3 containers to clear up the house, according to his Facebook post.
Spring cleaning on a different level
The Dana Kita team really outdid themselves, even re-painting the flat and furnishing it with new table, chairs and bedding.
 They installed new flooring and curtains, and gifted them with new kitchenware too.
With the burden of a messy house and no clean water relieved, the family will be able to celebrate Chinese New Year without worry.
Mr Mohd Fadli mentioned on Facebook that it had been years since they’ve done so. They haven’t ever received such kind treatment from a complete stranger and they hadn’t felt so cared for in years.
Helping out regardless of race or religion
In his Facebook post, Mr Mohd Fadli promised to help anyone in need, regardless of race or religion.
Many have commented positively on the Facebook post, saying that he embodies the spirit of a true Malaysian.
Mr Mohd Fadli is the pinnacle of how we should help those in need, regardless of who they are. His compassion, brought people together to help out a needy family, even though they share vastly different cultures and beliefs.
Nevertheless, he brought them joy and hope in what must be a dark period for them, and we applaud his kindness.
You don’t need to go out of your way to help someone out of a rut to do good. Little acts of kindness are just as impactful and make just as big a difference to people’s everyday lives.
This Chinese New Year, try looking out for those who may find the festive period difficult, whether financial, emotional or otherwise. Holidays aren’t always a celebratory period for people, and we’re certain anyone having a hard time would really appreciate any kind of concern.
