Customer appalled by ‘super thin’ kaya toasts at Tan Tock Seng Kopitiam outlet
A customer, Mr Michael Poh, was taken aback when he received “super thin” kaya toasts from the Kopitiam food courts at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
He had apparently ordered a Signature Breakfast Set (S$3.50), which comes with two pieces of kaya butter toast, two soft-boiled eggs, and a beverage of either coffee or tea.
Pictures shared by Mr Poh show two thinly sliced pieces of bread — barely a few centimetres thick — with meagre portions of kaya jam and butter in between.
Mr Poh told MS News that he was “shocked and awed that they could cut the bread so thinly”.
He added: “The government asked hawkers to provide affordable full meals so I was quite surprised with this super thin kaya toast which I bought at Kopitiam.”
Mr Poh also added in the comments that he had asked for the bread to be toasted, but decided not to pursue the matter even though it didn’t come as requested.
Netizens also shocked at thin slices of kaya toast
Netizens on the Complaint Singapore Facebook group were similarly shocked by the thin slices of kaya toast.
This user compared the toasts to paper and said it would be blown away by the wind.
Others raised the possibility that the staff member who prepared Mr Poh’s bread could be a new worker. MS News has reached out to Kopitam for more information on this incident. Also read: Tampines coffee shop criticised for thin slices of butter on toast, alleged mistake by new employee
