American TikToker says Singapore is ‘super expensive’
On 24 July, an American TikToker living in Japan gave netizens a rundown of her recent “expensive” trip to Singapore.
The solo world traveller, who goes by ‘Bree’ on social media, documented her holiday expenses in a short TikTok video.
“Super expensive but very clean,” the caption read.

Paid S$6,000 for accommodation
She began by stating the price of her flight tickets, which were S$470 from Japan to Singapore roundtrip.
Bree subsequently shared that she forked out S$1,200 per night for her accommodation.
As she was in Singapore for five nights, her total cost for accommodation alone amounted to S$6,000.
“Believe it or not this was on the cheaper side,” the caption read.
Bree claimed that all hotels in the country were “hella expensive” as Airbnb was illegal in Singapore.
Based on a Google Maps view of her location, it appeared that Bree stayed in the Marina Bay area during her holiday.
She also noted that her transportation costs totalled S$800 and that she paid S$90 for a one-way transfer from her hotel to the airport, which was a 20-minute drive.
Additionally, her overall food costs were on the higher end, amounting to around S$1,500. She noted that during one of her meals, a tuna salad and a side of calamari cost her S$85.
“My pearls were clutched and them cheeks were squeezed,” she said.
As Bree also visited Universal Studios Singapore on top of other activities, she racked up another S$300, which put the total cost of her trip at S$9,090.
She ended the video by noting that Singapore was worth visiting but not worth the price.
Netizens shocked by exorbitant expenses
After watching the video, many TikTok commenters were shocked by Bree’s holiday expenses, specifically how much she spent on her accommodation.
Despite several Singaporean netizens agreeing with Bree on how the Little Red Dot is “expensive”, they noted that she could have curbed the exorbitant prices with cheaper options.
With many angry Singaporeans defending the country in the comments, Bree added that she did not wish to stay at local hostels or dine at hawker stalls during her holiday.
