Driver in Malaysia runs a red light and hits traffic warden
A school traffic warden in Malaysia was left injured after a car ran a red light and hit him. Footage of the incident was uploaded to Facebook by a netizen on Thursday (7 Nov).
In the 20-second clip, the grey car was seen driving into the traffic warden who was crossing the road while gesturing to some pedestrians on the other side.
The impact then caused him to tumble over on the road.
After the collision, he appeared to struggle to stand up before the video abruptly ended.
Arma Syazmani, the user who uploaded the footage, said that the incident occurred earlier that afternoon before 2pm.
She identified the injured traffic warden as Pakcik Osman, who was wearing a bright safety vest and holding a red flag at the time of the accident.
Car driver allegedly blames traffic warden for the collision
Ms Arma also alleged that the car driver blamed the traffic warden for the accident.
“He had the nerve to say that the traffic warden was in the wrong for standing in the middle of the road,” she stated in her post.
“Does he think the traffic warden was dancing in the middle of the road?” She added, acknowledging that the traffic warden was merely doing his job by protecting school children from dangers on the road.
Additionally, she stated that the car had run a red light.
She also questioned what else the traffic warden could have done to be noticed. “Should we ask him to wear a Hulk costume to be noticed?”
Traffic warden injured as a result of the hit
Ms Arma subsequently shared a picture of the school traffic warden in the hospital. His left arm was wrapped in a cast, seemingly injured from the accident.
In a separate post, Ms Arma shared an update on the traffic warden three days after her original post. She confirmed that the elderly officer had broken his left arm as a result of the collision.
She also stated that the traffic warden will be unable to carry out his duties for the time being.
Ms Arma also urged parents to remind their kids to take extra precaution while crossing the road in the case no one assumes the traffic warden’s duties.
