Woman found dead in Ang Mo Kio flat, allegedly killed by homeless man she took in

A 67-year-old woman was found dead in her Ang Mo Kio HDB unit on Friday (29 Nov) morning.

The incident took place at Block 125 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6.

The police have arrested a 66-year-old male suspect whom the victim took in — he was allegedly homeless.

Frequently argued over money and alcohol

Ms Lin (surname transliterated from Chinese), a long-time friend of the victim, said the 67-year-old had allowed the suspect to stay with her intermittently since the Covid-19 pandemic, reported 8world News.

However, both of them often got into fights over money and alcohol.

One of the victim’s neighbours claimed she heard loud quarrels from the victim’s flat nearly every day.

The neighbour also claimed that the victim had refused to let the suspect into her home last week.

Suspect allegedly beat victim & stabbed her with scissors

The police were alerted to the incident at about 1am on Friday (29 Nov) and found the victim lying motionless in the house.

She was pronounced dead after being conveyed to the hospital. The man living with her was arrested at the scene.

Ms Lin said the victim was beaten up by the suspect:

When I went to the hospital to see her, her whole face was black and blue, and the man stabbed her with a pair of scissors. He then went missing but recently returned.

Investigations revealed that the victim and suspect were acquainted.

Ms Lin shared that the victim acquired the flat with her ex-husband. The house became hers after they separated.

Despite having four children, the victim apparently lost contact with her third and fourth children while the first and second children never visited her.

The suspect faces the death penalty if found guilty of murder.
