Woman contemplates suicide after seeing stroke-stricken husband take food meant for stray dogs

A woman in Thailand was pushed to the brink of suicide after witnessing her stroke-afflicted husband forced to fight stray dogs for scraps of food.

On Sunday (16 March), authorities received a report from concerned citizens who spotted the woman crying at the edge of a pier.

According to Channel 7 News, rescue workers found the woman near the Bang Pakong Dam, located approximately 150km east of Bangkok.

Upon arrival, rescue teams discovered the visibly distraught 54-year-old woman, who shared her heart-wrenching story.

Struggling to make ends meet

The woman — who had been supporting her family as a motorcycle taxi driver — was struggling to make ends meet.

Her situation became more dire following her husband’s stroke.

The 54-year-old was then pushed to the brink when she witnessed her husband eating scraps left by locals for stray dogs.

When she saw the depths of their poverty, she felt overwhelmed and unable to bear the situation any longer, leading her to contemplate ending her life.

Support floods in for couple

Following her rescue, authorities provided the couple with essential supplies to help them get by.

They also pledge to conduct monthly check-ins to ensure the couple has enough resources to avoid hunger.

After their story went viral on social media, the couple received an outpouring of support from Thai netizens.

Not only did they receive additional supplies from a local temple, but they also garnered more than 120,000 baht (S$4,760) in donations.

The woman shared that she had felt incredibly isolated as life’s misfortunes seemed to pile up all at once.

Alongside seeing her husband scavenging for food meant for stray dogs, thieves had also stolen the couple’s satellite dish.

However, the outpouring of support has left her feeling elated.

Grateful for the donations, she plans to use the funds to settle the outstanding payments for her motorcycle and the couple’s overdue rent, with any remaining money allocated for daily necessities.

She thanked the kind-hearted individuals who donated, acknowledging that this support has now made it possible for the family to live debt-free.
