Woman Flings Items From Tanah Merah Condo Balcony On 22 Oct
Mental health struggles can take many forms, some of them more extreme than others.
Recently, a woman in Tanah Merah was arrested under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008 after tossing household objects from her unit.
She flung a variety of items from clothes to baskets and even a suitcase. The outburst lasted for an hour.
Police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived on the scene, with officers even setting up an inflatable air pack as a precaution.
Woman throws clothes & containers among other objects
According to 8world News, a 49-year-old woman threw the objects out of her house for over an hour.
The incident took place at the Casa Merah condominium in Tanah Merah, at around noon on 22 Oct.
A video uploaded to TikTok by a neighbour showed a large array of items scattered across a footpath and the grass around it.
At a glance, it looked like the woman had thrown clothes, sheets, plastic containers, baskets, and even a whole suitcase down the building.
The footage then showed an object falling from a height and breaking upon impact.
At one point, responding police officers carrying equipment approached the condominium complex from the outside.
Woman arrested under the Mental Health Act
A second TikTok video also showed SCDF officers with an inflatable safety life air pack, as a precaution in case the woman did anything dangerous to herself.
Interested passers-by watched the situation unfold from a distance.
The woman continued throwing items down, including a large plastic container full of clothes that landed with a loud thud.
The OP also showed the sheer amount of household objects strewn on the ground. Police cordoned off the large area where the items had been scattered.
According to Shin Min Daily News, neighbours alleged that the woman’s mental health struggles previously got the police involved as well. However, this particular situation proved the most serious.
Police later arrested the woman under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008 for her reckless behaviour that endangered others.
We sincerely hope that the woman gets the help she needs.
Last month, a man suspected of being mentally unwell wore the Singapore flag as a cape and declared himself God at a Hougang kopitiam.
