Man mocked by his boss after taking sick leave to get MC
While paid sick leave should be understood as a right in itself, how inflexible some bosses are can make it a tricky situation for employees.
Recently, a netizen, based in Malaysia, shared a story on social media which involved an employee who was questioned by their boss about how they were fit enough to obtain a medical certificate (MC) but too ill to work.
Employee questioned about being able to go see doctor
According to their Threads post on Wednesday (1 April), user @kopiaislimau90 shared that one of his subordinates had been on medical leave (MC) for four consecutive days due to illness.
Despite providing a valid doctor’s certificate, the employer reportedly sent a message mocking them.

A screenshot shared by the OP shows a message which reads: “Can’t wake up to work, but can wake up to get MC.”
Together with the photo is the OP’s statement expressing frustration.
“So stupid, I’m seriously exhausted. No MC, they demand an MC. Now that I’ve actually gotten an MC, this is the kind of response I get?”

The OP later clarified that the employee was initially granted two days of leave.
However, they suffered a “bad fever” and returned to the clinic for a follow-up. So, the doctor gave them an additional two days of MC to recover.
“[The boss] still can ask what was the cause of the fever? I’m not a doctor, lah,” the OP said.
Netizens criticised boss for having no empathy
Following the post, many netizens slammed the employer for lacking empathy.
One remarked that going to the clinic to get an MC would take roughly 10 minutes, as opposed to the eight hours one would usually spend working a full day.
Another person suggested asking the company whether it allows taking MC without requiring a certificate, adding that they would be happy to apply for one.
