Chinatown Food Street Closed For Upgrading Works Till 1 Jun, Rental Waived In The Meantime
If you’re still reeling from the closure of Japan Food Town, you might want to sit down for this next bit.

The management of Chinatown Food Street said the closure is for upgrading works to the premises, and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
Foodies will miss Chinatown Food Street goodies for 2 months
This is extremely depressing news for foodies, who will miss out on goodies such as barbecued seafood, Hainanese chicken rice, Hokkien mee, bak kut teh, satay, X.O. fish head bee hoon and much more.

To make matters worse, Chinatown Food Street’s popular restaurant Fatty Weng announced its permanent outlet closure from 16 Mar onwards.
Luckily, the traditional Cantonese tze-char store has another outlet — Fatty Weng Kitchen — open in Bukit Batok.
Score one for the Westies.
Employees to undergo training, rental waived during this period
The management has no intention of idling the time away during the 2-month closure.
In an interview with Shin Min Daily News, Chinatown Food Street’s operator said that stallholders and their employees will be sent for training or reassigned to other restaurants.
Additionally, in line with Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat’s plea for landlords to reduce cost pressures for tenants, stall rentals will also be waived during this period.

Support for local businesses during this tough time
Kudos to management for being magnanimous and using the closure period in an efficient way.
While it’s sad that the popular hangout for fantastic food is closing, we should take heart that the closure only lasts for 2 months.
Furthermore, the upgrades that Chinatown Food Street is slated to undergo will surely make it’s re-opening all the more sweeter.
Till then, let’s enjoy what is still available to us and appreciate it while we can.
