Taiwanese author Chiung Yao found dead in flat in Taipei
On Wednesday (4 Dec), famed author Chiung Yao (瓊瑤) was found dead in her apartment in Taipei, Taiwan.
According to local media TVBS, the 86-year-old had taken her own life.
Chiung was known for her romance novels, including ‘My Fair Princess’ (还珠格格) and ‘Three Lanes of Plum Blossoms’ (梅花三弄). Many of them have also been adapted into television series.
Writer left will behind
Ms Yao reportedly instructed her secretary to check in on her at about noon on Wednesday (4 Dec). It was then that her secretary found that the author had taken her own life.
The 86-year-old lost all signs of life by the time paramedics arrived at the scene.
Her son told local media that she had left a will behind, which was posted on her Facebook page shortly after news of her death broke.
The post contained the author’s final piece of writing, titled ‘When snow falls’.
It also included a video of her reciting the writing, and her parting words for her friends and readers.
The ending salutations indicate the will was written by Ms Yao on Tuesday (3 Dec) in her residence, and subsequently published on her behalf.
