Taiwan woman dies from complications during facelift at aesthetics clinic
A 49-year-old woman in Taiwan developed complications during a facelift procedure at a medical aesthetics clinic.
The procedure was halted midway and she was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead despite emergency medical efforts.
Complications during facelift
According to ETtoday and police reports, the woman, identified by the surname Qiu, visited the clinic in Zhongshan district for the treatment on 7 Dec at approximately 3pm.
She was reportedly conscious and in stable condition when the procedure began.
However, complications arose during the administration of anesthesia, causing her blood oxygen levels to drop abnormally. The clinic promptly suspended the procedure.
Qiu was still conscious when she was moved out of the operating room.
Rushed to hospital
The clinic then rushed the woman to the hospital via ambulance, but her condition deteriorated rapidly and she eventually died.
The clinic involved is part of a large chain with more than 10 branches across Taiwan.
It specialises in services such as skin management, non-surgical cosmetic treatments, and plastic surgery.
Following the incident, authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of her death.
The police have also called up the deceased’s mother and brother for their statements.
