Single Dad Raising 5 Kids Alone Receives $125K In Public Donations
When couples make a commitment to marriage, the vow is to stay by each other’s side for life, which is why losing your partner unexpectedly would be so devastating.
Newly single dad Joe knows the pain too well, after losing his wife in Mar 2021. Now raising their 5 kids alone, he could use all the help he can get.
Thankfully, Good Samaritans in Singapore are doing just that, as they raised over $125,000 in donations.
Wife passes away suddenly 1 month after giving birth
According to a GIVE.asia campaign page, Joe’s wife, Su, had suffered from heart failure in March, shortly after giving birth to their 5th child.
Despite still reeling from the sudden loss of his school sweetheart, Joe has to put up a brave front in order to single-handedly carry the burden of supporting their 5 children.
Ranging from 2 months to 7 years old, the young children need much of their father’s attention, which is why Joe has to work fewer hours.
The time off he has to take to attend to them chips away at his income as a Safety Coordinator, which is already barely enough to cover their expenses. Three of the little ones are still on formula milk and in diapers.
Furthermore, Joe’s eldest son, who has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, needs money for school bus fees. Thankfully, his school fees are free.
Public donates over $125K to single dad & 5 kids
With the aim of supporting Joe’s monthly expenses and safeguarding his children’s education, the GIVE.asia campaign had a goal of raising $123,000.
1,648 kind donors chipped in, and they eventually exceeded their goal in no time, with $125,674 raised.
Besides monthly expenses, the campaign states that some of the money will go to educational insurance, which will ensure that all 5 kids have access to education till they’re 21 years of age.
In addition, the campaign has apparently received Government assistance, with free school fees and medical subsidies for the children.
Due to the success, the GIVE.asia campaign has officially ended.
Hope family will find the strength to keep moving forward
Raising 5 young kids alone is a tall order, but we hope that Joe will be able to find the strength to do so with some help along the way.
MS News extends our sincere condolences to the family for their loss. We also thank the many kind donors who didn’t hesitate to help.
May the road ahead be a manageable one for Joe and his family.
