Drunk driver crashes into 3 motorcycles & car on Toh Tuck Ave after going against flow of traffic
On Sunday (13 Oct), a man suspected of drunk driving caused a collision involving three motorcycles and a car after driving against traffic in Clementi.
Fortunately, the three motorcyclists were able to reacted swiftly, jumping off their bikes just in time to avoid injuries.
Motorcyclists leaped off bikes to avoid crash
On Friday (18 Oct), Facebook group SG Road Vigilante – SGRV shared dashcam footage of the incident, which took place on Toh Tuck Avenue.
The video showed three motorcyclists waiting at a red light, with the camcar stopped behind them.
Suddenly, a white SUV appeared, speeding directly towards the stationary motorcycles.
Realising the danger, nearby drivers honked in warning, prompting the riders to leap off their bikes just before the car struck them.
The SUV, which SG Road Vigilante – SGRV said was a Subaru Forester, then continued forward and collided with the car that had been recording the incident.
The motorcyclists were gesturing in anger at the car.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, while the motorcycles suffered some damage, no one was injured in the accident.
Driver appears disoriented & drinks water after accident
Following the accident, the driver could be seen stepping out of the vehicle.
He appeared disoriented, and was seen drinking water as he inspected the scene.
Many netizens expressed relief that the motorcyclists had reacted quickly, preventing what could have been a more serious accident.
One said it was lucky that the riders had such quick reflexes.
Another netizen speculated that the driver would likely face legal consequences, including the suspension of his driver’s licence.
Many also felt that penalties for drink driving might be too lenient.
Man arrested for drink driving
In response to MS News‘ queries, the police said they were alerted to the incident at about 11.15pm on Sunday (13 Oct).
Three male motorcyclists between the ages of 21 and 25, were conveyed to the hospital in a conscious state.
The driver, identified as a 38-year-old man, was arrested for drink driving.
Police investigations are ongoing.
