70-year-old man stabbed in forehead as Toa Payoh neighbourly dispute escalates into fight
A dispute between neighbours in Toa Payoh escalated to full-on fisticuffs, culminating in one man being sent to hospital and the other getting arrested.
The incident occurred at about 3pm last Saturday (16 Nov) in Block 34 Lorong 5 Toa Payoh, reported Shin Min Daily News.
A Shin Min reader alerted the paper that several police vehicles were seen outside the block, arousing curiosity and concern from the public.
Toa Payoh resident says neighbour spat on him
One of the men involved in the fracas was a 70-year-old resident named only as Mr Pan (transliterated from Mandarin).
He told Shin Min that he and his wife had gone to his sister-in-law’s flat on the same floor to pick up some things.
However, his sister-in-law’s neighbour allegedly spat at him from inside his unit and spewed vulgarities in an apparent attempt to provoke him.
Mr Pan and the man had had a feud due to a previous dispute when the 70-year-old defended a cleaner who was scolded by the other man for taking out the trash while he was eating.

Thus, when the man spat at Mr Pan, he angrily challenged him to “one-on-one combat”.
Unexpectedly, the other party replied: “Go home and get your knife!”
He then rushed out of his flat and allegedly attacked him with a 30cm-long strip made of hard plastic, he said.
Seeing the two uncles struggling, Mr Pan’s nephew tried to break up the fight by pulling them apart.
But in the chaos, Mr Pan was stabbed in his forehead with the plastic strip.
His family then called the police.

After being taken to hospital, doctors found a 4cm-long wound above Mr Pan’s eyebrow, which required stitches.
His forehead is now bandaged up, according to Shin Min’s observations.
He said he would have to return to the hospital this week to remove his stitches.
